I am happy to share info on this forthcoming thriller and dark comedy.
Written by Olivier and Tony Award winning playwright Alan Ayckbourn and first performed at the Stephen Joseph Theatre, Scarborough in June 2002, the play revolves around two sisters, Annabel who returns to the family home shortly after their father's death and her younger sister Miriam who still lives there.
Annabel comes back to a series of unsettling surprises while her sister seems to be rather scatty and naive - but is she really?
The two sisters are also blackmailed by their father’s former nurse Alice, who claims to have been purposely fired by Miriam and demands compensation.
The plot gradually unravels with a series of sensational turns and twists of events, leaving the audience in suspense until the very end. Snake in the Grass is a thriller but also a black comedy and play raising uncomfortable questions about whether abusive love is preferable to no love at all.
It may also be a ghost story or possibly not, it would be wrong to give anything away. In Ayckbourn’s own words “the phantoms lie within us, born out of a past that continues to haunt us”.

Snake in the Grass was written as a female companion piece to the 1994 play Haunting Julia, in 2008 these two plays, together with a new play Life and Beth were folded into a trilogy named Things That Go Bump.

Dal 24 al 29 aprile 2018 è in scena al Teatro San Genesio, in lingua inglese, “Serpente nell'erba” un gioco di Alan Ayckbourn diretto da Michael Fitzpatrick.
Sinossi e presentazione
Scritto da Alan Ayckbourn, il drammaturgo di Olivier e Tony Award, e interpretato per la prima volta allo Stephen Joseph Theatre di Scarborough nel giugno 2002, la commedia ruota intorno a due sorelle, Annabel che ritorna nella casa di famiglia poco dopo la morte del padre e lei la sorella minore Miriam, che vive ancora lì.
Annabel torna a una serie di sorprese inquietanti, mentre sua sorella sembra piuttosto scatida e ingenua - ma è davvero lei?
Le due sorelle vengono anche ricattate dall'ex infermiera del padre, Alice, che sostiene di essere stata intenzionalmente licenziata da Miriam e chiede un risarcimento. La trama gradualmente si dipana con una serie di svolte sensazionali e colpi di scena, lasciando il pubblico in sospeso fino alla fine.
Snake in the Grass è un thriller ma anche una commedia nera e un gioco che solleva scomode domande sul fatto che l'amore violento sia preferibile a nessun amore. Potrebbe anche essere una storia di fantasmi o forse no, sarebbe sbagliato dare qualcosa.
Nelle parole di Ayckbourn "i fantasmi giacciono dentro di noi, nati da un passato che continua a perseguitarci". Snake in the Grass è stato scritto come complemento femminile nel film Haunting Julia del 1994, nel 2008 queste due commedie, insieme a una nuova commedia Life and Beth, sono state trasformate in una trilogia intitolata Things That Go Bump. "Una serata inquietante, spaventosamente, stranamente piacevole."
